In high risk patients with ischemic heart disease, mortality can
be reduced by implantation of a cardioverter-defibrillator. As the
selection of high risk patients is a crucial part of prophylaxis,
risk stratification strategies are of practical importance. In
survivors of acute myocardial infarction, the predictive value of
currently used risk factors is rather modest. Establishing new
powerful risk predictors independent of the presently available
stratifiers is therefore of considerable practical value.
Goal of the Working Group of Biological Signal Analyses is to
develop new diagnostic tools for risk stratification on the basis
of non-invasive biosignals, such as ECGs, arterial pressure curves
and respiration signals.
